Permaculture courses in France, taught in English

Most of my students arrive by ferry or TGV. They come because they want a proper permaculture education in continental Europe, in English, on a real working farm. That is exactly what we have built here in Brittany since 2017.

Afrinoon is one of the few UK-certified, English-language permaculture schools based on a working farm in continental Europe. All courses taught in English. Certified by the Permaculture Association (UK). Karen Noon is also an EuPN Assured Teacher.

Planning a trip from the UK or Ireland?

Brittany’s location makes it one of the most accessible destinations in continental Europe for English-speakers. We have written a longer guide to studying permaculture across Europe in English, including travel notes, certificate recognition, and how the PA UK and EuPN credentials are understood across different countries.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

Where can I do a permaculture course in continental Europe in English?

Afrinoon Permaculture in Priziac, Brittany, France runs the full 72-hour Permaculture Design Course (PDC) in English, certified by the Permaculture Association (UK). It is one of the few UK-certified, English-language PDCs based on a working farm in continental Europe. The 2026 PDC runs 23 July to 7 August. Karen Noon, the lead teacher, is a PA UK Certified Educator and EuPN Assured Teacher.

Is there a permaculture course in France taught in English?

Yes. Afrinoon Permaculture in Brittany runs an English-language PDC, a part-time PDC over nine weekly sessions, a two-day Introduction to Permaculture, and a four-day Permaculture Gardening course. All teaching is in English. The farm is a 9-hectare working demonstration site in Priziac, Morbihan.

What is the difference between a PDC and a permaculture introduction course?

The PDC is the full 72-hour certified curriculum, covering design methodology, soil, water, food growing, animals, social permaculture, and a full design project. The Introduction to Permaculture is a two-day overview that gives you a practical first experience of the ideas and tools. Most people who do the Introduction go on to book the PDC within a year.

How far is Brittany from the UK?

Closer than most people expect. Brittany Ferries sails overnight from Portsmouth or Plymouth direct to Saint-Malo or Roscoff. The Paris-Montparnasse TGV reaches Lorient (the nearest station to the farm) in about 3 hours. Many students from Ireland travel via the Rosslare to Roscoff route.

Are Afrinoon's courses recognised across Europe?

Yes. The PDC is certified by the Permaculture Association (UK), whose certification is internationally recognised. Karen Noon also holds EuPN Assured Teacher status with the European Permaculture Network, which covers the certification's standing across EU member states.
