Where you are now

Where curiosity meets a working farm.

Most people considering permaculture have read a little, watched a few things, and tried something in the garden. The next question is usually whether to commit to a full course. The Introduction is designed exactly for that decision point.

It is two days, hands-on, on a 9-hectare working farm. Certified by the Permaculture Association UK. Taught by Karen Noon, a PA UK certified educator and EuPN Assured Teacher.

If you have been wondering whether permaculture is for you, two days standing in a real productive system will tell you more than any book or video ever could.

What this course gives you

What two days on the farm gives you.

In a world of rapid change, many of us are searching for grounded, resilient ways to live and strengthen our communities. This weekend is your opportunity to explore those solutions in a supportive, inspiring environment.

Whether you are tending a garden, managing a smallholding, or making the most of a balcony or courtyard, you will leave with practical tools and ideas you can start using right away.

Students who do the Introduction and want to go further can progress to the full Permaculture Design Course (PDC) with a structural advantage. They have already met Karen, walked the farm, and seen the systems they will be designing.

Common questions

About the Introduction course

What does "certified" mean for a 2-day course?

The Introduction to Permaculture is certified by the Permaculture Association UK. You receive a certificate of attendance from a PA UK certified educator. It is a recognised first step within the wider permaculture education pathway. It is not the same as the full PDC certificate, which is a separate 72-hour qualification.

Is this suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Most people who join have not studied permaculture formally before. The course is designed to work from first principles. No prior experience or specialist clothing is needed beyond comfortable outdoor wear.

Can I progress to the full PDC after this?

Yes, and many people do. Completing the Introduction is not a prerequisite for the PDC, but it is a useful first step if you want to meet Karen and see the farm before committing to the two-week course.

What is included?

Two days of teaching with Karen on the Afrinoon farm, tea, coffee, and refreshments. Please bring a packed lunch to help keep the course affordable. Comfortable outdoor clothing and footwear are recommended.
