Join us for a two-day introduction to permaculture design theory and action. In today’s ever-changing world, we’re all seeking solutions for community stability.

Here at our site, we’re passionate about showcasing how permaculture learning is more than just a concept—it’s a way of life. From sustainable living practices to innovative food production and land management techniques, we’re committed to putting permaculture into action every day.

During this ‘taster,’ you’ll experience firsthand the principles of permaculture and witness real-life examples of how we implement designs right here on our site. Come join us and discover the transformative power of permaculture, while connecting with like-minded individuals who share our vision for a more sustainable future.

Learn practical permaculture design techniques that you can apply to your own environment, whether it’s a backyard garden, a small holding, or even an apartment balcony. Together, let’s create simple, sustainable systems that require minimal time, energy, and resources, and make a positive impact on our world.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand permaculture growing methods,
  • Recognise and utilise natural patterns in nature,
  • Design for minimum intervention and maximum yield,
  • Harvest and conserve energy,
  • Permaculture composting and the value of healthy soils,
  • Learn how to understand and manage relationships between people and nature
  • The course is lively, participatory and thought provoking. In addition, it is designed to benefit everyone regardless of learning style, experience and ag.

Karen is a certified teacher through the UK Permaculture Association.

Tea, coffee and refreshments provided. To keep costs low we would request that you bring a packed lunch.

Permaculture Design Course

(72hr certified)

About this course

This summer we will be running the international standard curriculum of the 72-hour permaculture course which is “certified by the Permaculture Association UK”

The Permaculture Design Course will guide you through the origins, development and application of permaculture. Exploring the ethics, principle, design tools and methodologies you will learn how to create holistic systems, designed to work in harmony with nature and to create productive and sustainable systems for living.

  • We are situated in rural Brittany with the beautiful, inspiring countryside on our doorstep
  • We have 3 teaching areas all unique and different.
  • Our classes are designed to be relaxed, interactive and fun. We look to cater for all learning styles.
  • The course will include curriculum topics presented using a variety of methods which will include lectures, discussions/debates, hands on activities, group projects and site visits.
  • We welcome people of all ages, background and levels of experience: please come with an open mind and be prepared to learn, share and enjoy meeting like-minded people.
  • Teaching will be conducted in English.
  • We will also have feature sessions with guest teachers, and site visits showing local permaculture projects in action.
  • Hearty and delicious vegetarian lunches will be served, and food is either grown at Afrinoon Permaculture or sourced from the gardens of our community Association

The aim of the Permaculture Design Course is to provide you with a solid grasp of permaculture design principles, instilling the confidence to implement these practices and pursue further learning opportunities.

ACCOMMODATION

There are two residential options (both include breakfast and use of washing facilities and access to a kitchen )
Option 1: We have space for 3 or 4 medium sized live-in vehicles and if you want to bring your own tent then we have 8 camping places.
Cost €8/night for 15 nights = €120
Option 2: We have a very comfortable yurt with a double bed (ideal for couples), and a large Bell Tent with 3 single beds on a shared accommodation basis (you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag)
Cost for Yurt €15/night for 15 nights = €225
Cost for Bell Tent single bed €8/night = €120

Alternatively we have access to a self catering farm house with a 1 double room, 1 shared twin and one single room. Own transport is needed to get back and forth to our teaching sites. Please enquire for these prices.

This is a non-residential course which includes lunch, refreshments, teaching, site visits, handouts and access to online resources – €750.00

A  deposit €200.00 is required at the time of booking and this will be deducted from final fee.

Permaculture Design Course (Part-time)

About this course

Do you want to transform your property into a beautiful, sustainable & healthy oasis?

Do you want to redesign your property. Learn to live healthier, more sustainably, and while still creating abundance in your life? 

This course enables you to create a complete permaculture design for your own project over the course of a few months, and at the end you will earn your internationally-standard Permaculture Design Certificate.  The course content has a wide and flexible application, not only in home-based settings, but also for those wishing to apply permaculture design within their business or community.

We will give you the knowledge and tools to enable you to use permaculture design in a context that is meaningful to you. This slower paced course gives you time to absorb and practice what you learn as we move through the modules.

The skills that you learn in this course have an endless variety of applications. After all, sustainable living is one of the fastest growing themes, both socially, environmentally and economically.

Some of the content we will explore will include: 

  • Permaculture ethics and guiding principles
  • Pattern in design
  • Why we need Permaculture.
  • Cultivated Ecology: such as regenerative pastures, forest gardens, no-till cultivation,   biological pest control.
  • Climates
  • Waste reduction in the home, recycling and disposal.
  • Soils:   Soil regeneration techniques and soil conservation.
  • Water in the Landscape
  • Forests and Trees:   Woodland establishment and management
  • Invisible Structures:  Real wealth, land access, formal/informal economy
  • Design: Design process and tools, maps and overlays, project planning. 

Karen is a “certified educator through the UK Permaculture Association” This course curriculum is certified by the Permaculture Association.

COSTS

We will meet once a week for 9 weeks and the course includes a vegetarian lunch, refreshments, teaching, site visits, handouts and access to online resources – €485.00.

Deposit: €180.00 is required at the time of booking and this will be deducted from final fee.

Permaculture Gardening

18 – 19 th May and 8-9th June 2024

Permaculture gardens are multifunctional spaces, offering a plethora of benefits beyond food production.

Led by Karen, this course delves into creating thriving edible gardens without breaking the bank.

Topics covered include:

  • starting your garden with various methods like no-dig and raised beds
  • understanding ecological growing methods,  implementing permaculture systems for effective design
  • Explore the importance of healthy soils and learn about composting, mycelium, and mulching techniques.
  • Dive into growing abundant, healthy food through topics like planting guilds, companion planting, and pest control, while also discovering the benefits of seed saving and seasonal planting.
  • Enhance your garden’s biodiversity to support wildlife and insects while reaping the rewards of sustainable gardening practices.

COSTS

How to start a Permaculture home garden – join us over 4 days in beautiful Brittany, France for a hands-on course. Embrace the journey to an abundant garden and eco-conscious living.

Camping on site, or book our yurt or lovely bell tent. Limited spots available

We will provide refreshments and biscuits, plus a light lunch each day.
