Designing a sustainable, recycling garden border

Upon proposing a sustainable garden border to the Head of Sustainability at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi, UAE, positive feedback was received. When I saw them the gardens were managed in a water-intensive and labor-intensive manner, with most plants being annuals that were replaced every few months due to extreme heat and humidity. No local or indigenous plants were used. The border that was selected for transformation was at the main back reception area and was a triangular garden with grass and two cycad palms.

Following approval from various stakeholders, a draft budget was agreed upon for the transformation into a sustainable, indigenous, recycled permaculture border.

For this project, I chose the OBREDIM design framework, which stands for Observe, Boundaries, Resources, Evaluate, Design, Implement, and Maintain. This comprehensive methodology guides all practical tasks effectively.
